Background
Rahul belongs to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his schooling from a private school in Kanpur and graduated from Kanpur University.
Motivation to Join the Armed Forces
Rahul’s inspiration to join the armed forces came from his childhood. Growing up, he was fascinated by the military environment, especially seeing army personnel, tanks, military drills, and cantonment life. His motivation grew stronger through his NCC experience, where regular interactions with officers and training further strengthened his desire to serve in the armed forces.
How R2R Helped
Rahul shared that R2R played a significant role in improving his performance, particularly in the Psychology and Interview assessments.
In the Psychology module, he learned:
- how to write TAT stories that genuinely reflected his personality,
- how to effectively associate words in the WAT,
- the importance of the Self Description (SD) test, and
- how to include real-life experiences in the SD instead of writing generic statements.
He also attended the Interview classes conducted by Rahul Sir, where he learned about Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) and, more importantly, how to manifest those qualities during the interview. He realized that although he possessed many OLQs, he was unable to present them effectively before the assessors.
The guidance also helped him prepare for questions based on the PIQ and CIQ, enabling him to answer with relevant real-life examples. As a result, he was able to build greater confidence during the interview.
Difference Between the Recommended Attempt and Previous Attempts
Rahul explained that his earlier attempts lacked depth in the Psychology tests. Previously, he did not know how to express the thoughts and emotions of the main character in TAT stories. Through R2R’s guidance, he understood:
- the importance of explaining why the main character chose a particular course of action,
- how to write action-oriented yet realistic stories,
- how to relate stories to real-life experiences,
- and how to approach the blank story effectively.
He also improved his interview performance by supporting every claim with specific real-life examples. Earlier, he would simply mention that he helped his father without explaining how. Later, he learned to elaborate on such experiences with concrete examples, allowing the interviewer to better assess his qualities.
Rahul believes these improvements led to his back-to-back recommendations.
Message for Aspirants
Rahul’s advice to SSB aspirants was:
“Be consistent. Understand yourself deeply and identify your genuine strengths and weaknesses. Take feedback from your friends and family, as they often know your personality better than you do. Self-awareness is the key to success in the SSB.”
