Finding Purpose, Cracking SSC JAG: The Story of Shritik

Many SSB aspirants have dreamed of joining the Armed Forces since childhood.

Shritik wasn’t one of them.

In fact, he describes himself as someone who was largely aimless until the third year of college.

Yet a few years later, he would earn a recommendation for SSC JAG.

What changed?

Sometimes, all it takes is a single moment to alter the direction of your life.

The Moment That Sparked Everything

Born and raised in Mumbai, Shritik pursued a BA LLB from NMIMS and followed what most would consider a conventional path.

There was no grand plan.

No childhood roadmap.

No fixed destination.

Then one day, while travelling, he noticed something that stayed with him.

A neatly dressed officer.

It was a simple sight, but it left an impression.

A few days earlier, he had also watched Shershaah, a film that had already stirred something within him.

The combination of those experiences sparked a curiosity he couldn’t ignore.

He began researching the Armed Forces and organisations like the CISF. The more he explored, the more fascinated he became.

What attracted him wasn’t just the uniform.

It was the lifestyle.

The regimentation.

The brotherhood.

The sense of purpose.

The idea of belonging to something bigger than yourself.

He realised this was a life that the civilian world rarely offers.

And that realisation became the beginning of his journey.

The Self-Preparation Phase

Like many aspirants, Shritik initially believed he could prepare entirely on his own.

He spent countless hours collecting resources, watching videos, reading experiences, and trying to understand the SSB process from multiple sources.

The information was available.

But it wasn’t organised.

One source contradicted another.

One mentor said one thing, another suggested something completely different.

Gradually, preparation started feeling more confusing than productive.

Looking back, he realised he was focusing heavily on one thing:

Clearing tasks.

Every obstacle was approached like a puzzle that needed a solution.

Every activity became something to “crack.”

But the SSB doesn’t work that way.

The Realisation That Changed Everything

At some point, Shritik came across an idea that completely shifted his perspective:

The goal isn’t to become good at SSB tasks. The goal is to become a better version of yourself.

That distinction changed his preparation.

Instead of asking:

“How do I clear this task?”

He started asking:

“What qualities is this task trying to assess?”

Instead of trying to create ideal answers, he began working on genuine self-improvement.

The focus shifted from performance to personality.

And that made all the difference.

Clearing the Noise

Through structured guidance and mentorship, many of the misconceptions he had built over months of self-preparation started disappearing.

One of his biggest issues was in Psychology.

His stories were often highly aspirational.

They sounded impressive but didn’t always reflect his actual personality and experiences.

Over time, he learned how to make them more grounded, authentic, and relatable.

The Interview preparation brought another important breakthrough.

Like many aspirants, he initially viewed the Interviewing Officer as someone who was simply trying to expose mistakes.

What he eventually learned was much more nuanced.

He began understanding:

  • How interview questions are structured.
  • Why certain follow-up questions are asked.
  • How to avoid creating contradictions.
  • How to present difficult aspects of life honestly.
  • How to ensure the truth isn’t misunderstood because of poor communication.

These subtle insights helped him approach interviews with far greater confidence and clarity.

A Different Candidate in This Attempt

By the time this attempt arrived, Shritik wasn’t preparing the same way he had before.

His Psychology stories had become far more original.

Instead of writing what sounded impressive, he wrote what genuinely reflected him.

He also tackled another issue that had quietly affected his progress for a long time:

Procrastination.

He knew it was holding him back.

And this time, he refused to let it dictate his preparation.

The concepts he had learned weren’t just understood, they were implemented.

And that’s where preparation begins turning into results.

The Outcome

The result of those changes was a recommendation in SSC JAG.

But what makes this achievement interesting isn’t just the recommendation itself.

It’s the transformation that happened before it.

A student who once felt directionless had found purpose.

A candidate who was overwhelmed by scattered information had found clarity.

A person who focused on clearing tasks had learned to focus on developing himself.

His Message to Aspirants

When asked what advice he would give to fellow candidates, his answer was straightforward:

“Keep trying.”

But his message goes deeper than persistence alone.

He points out that even when his name wasn’t high on the merit list, he refused to become discouraged.

He kept improving.

Kept learning.

Kept moving forward.

And eventually, those small improvements accumulated into success.

One line from his message captures his mindset perfectly:

“If you know where you’re going, give it your all. Whether you cry or scream, just don’t stop.”

Because at the end of the day, setbacks fade.

Attempts become numbers.

Results eventually arrive.

What stays with you is whether you gave the journey everything you had.

A Thought for Every Aspirant

Many candidates enter SSB preparation looking for shortcuts, perfect answers, or hidden techniques.

But the candidates who grow the most often discover something unexpected:

The SSB is less about becoming someone new and more about understanding who you already are.

The process rewards clarity.

Authenticity.

Self-awareness.

And the willingness to keep improving.

Shritik’s story is proof that you don’t need to have your life figured out from day one.

You don’t need a lifelong dream.

You don’t need a perfect background.

Sometimes, all you need is a reason to start, and the determination not to stop once you’ve begun.

And for many aspirants, that journey begins the moment they stop asking, “How do I clear the SSB?”

and start asking,

“How do I become the person the SSB is looking for?”
